BELDING – The Oakridge Eagles’ defense turned in stellar performance on  Friday night and led the Eagles to a 13-7 victory in a Division 5 playoff opener.
 
The running game wasn’t too shabby either with senior Trever Jones and Bryson Stephenson leading the way. Jones finished with 27 rushes for 138 yards and Stephenson added 18 carries for 76 yards.
 
The Eagles had 221 yards rushing. In the passing game, Evan Miller completed 4-of-9 passes for 69 yards and one touchdown.
 
In the opening quarter, Stephenson opened the scoring on a 16-yard pass from Miller. In the second quarter, Jones scored on a 33-yard run.
 
Belding answered in the third quarter on a 65-yard run by T. J. Smith.
 
Jullian Primmer led the Eagle defense with six tackles.
 
Next week, Oakridge takes on Grand Rapids West Catholic, a 70-0 winner over Comstock Park on Friday night.
