MANISTEE – The Greater Muskegon co-op swim and dive team earned a much-needed victory over Manistee on Thursday.

The Turtles won, 115-64.

“It was great to see the team enjoy having fun and swimming and diving with a lot more confidence and hunger tonight,” said Turtles coach Mick Homan. “After almost a month and a half of many struggles, illness, and injuries it was great to see the girls have some success tonight.”

The 200-medley relay team of Isabella DeJonge, Susie VanBaale, Eva Stout and Grace Offman finished in first place (2:12.31), while Sydney Sytsema, Maria Eenigenburg, Marilyn Gaston and Millie Crow came in second place (2:13.37).

Sytsema was a double winner with first-place finishes in the 100 IM (2:37.37) and 500 free with a personal best time (6:14.42). Gaston followed with wins in the 50 free (28.18) and 100 back (1:12.55).

VanBaale finished in first with a personal best time (1:15.58) and Hollen Emmick won the dives with a score of 176.05.

The squad of Offman, DeJonge, VanBaale and Eenigenburg finished on top in the 200-free relay (1:59).

Also, Gaston Stout, Curow and Sytsema came in first place in the 400 free relay (4:27.90).

“It was also nice to see the team accept the challenges of swimming off events and see a lot of success,” Homan said. “I was very proud of them all.”

The Turtles (3-9, 0-4) head to the Ottawa Hills Invitational on Saturday.
