NORTON SHORES – The Western Michigan Christian girls basketball team notched an Alliance League victory against rival Muskegon Catholic Central on Friday.

The Warriors topped the Crusaders, 65-12.

With a 27-0 lead after the first quarter, the Warriors stepped on the gas and didn’t let up for three more quarters.

“We did a great job passing the ball around and found the open player,” said WMC coach Sarah Koetsier. “We had many assists tonight and each of our players scored.”

Hannah Heiss led with 13 points and five steals, while Kate Derdowski had 11 points and six steals. Eveline Derdowski added 11 points and five steals. Ashley Folkema scored 10 points, made four assists and snagged four steals.

WMC was also led by Kasey Folkema with nine points, six assists and four rebounds while Tressa Arkema chipped in nine points and five rebounds.

WMC (2-0, 1-0) next travels to Kent City on Wednesday.

Muskegon Catholic Central (0-2, 0-1) hosts Kentwood Grand River Prep on Thursday.
