NORTON SHORES – Ashley Folkema helped guide the Western Michigan Christian girls basketball team to a narrow 58-50 Alliance League victory over Potter’s House on Friday.

Folkema posted a stat line of 23 points, eight steals and seven rebounds in the victory on a night WMC celebrated Homecoming.

Potter’s House found the hot hand first as they opened with a trio of 3-pointers to aid in a 15-7 first-quarter lead.

The Warriors continued to find themselves in a hole and Potter’s House was ahead, 48-35, rolling into the fourth quarter. However, the Warriors sprung to life in the final quarter to make a run and steal the game.

“I am proud of how hard we played tonight,” said WMC coach Sarah Koetsier. “We played great defense in the fourth quarter and held Potters’ House to only two points.”

Kate Derdowski scored 10 points and had four assists, while Hannah Heiss added 10 points. Maria Eenigenburg threw in eight rebounds and six steals.

WMC (5-2, 2-0) will take a trip to Martin on Monday.
