HOWARD CITY – The Fremont girls basketball team shook off a cold first quarter to blow by Tri-County 62-22 on Wednesday evening.

The Packers opened by shooting just 3-for-17 in the first quarter, but still managed to lead 11-8. The fire was lit into the second quarter and the Packers fired off a 23-2 scoring run that pushed the lead to 34-10 at halftime.

The push continued into the second half as the Packers’ scoring forced a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Fremont’s Jessica Bennett scored 19 points and snagged seven steals, while Riley Chase had 12 points and six steals. Khaila Noordyk and Eliana VandenBerg contributed nine and eight points, respectively. Taylor DeKuiper pulled down six rebounds, scored five points and made five steals.

Fremont (4-2, 2-0) will host Orchard View on Thursday for WMC-Lakes action.
