NEWAYGO – The Newaygo girls basketball team found smooth sailing in a non-conference contest against Ravenna on Wednesday evening.

The Lions went up 13-5 after the first two quarters, maintained the lead and won, 32-17.

“It was a good game for us coming out of Christmas break and thought the girls played really hard,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma.

Amaya Lathrop led the Lions with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals. Lillian Holmes scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds and made five blocks. Maria Riddering chipped in six points, five steals and five deflections.

“It’s never easy coming out of break, but the girls showed up,” Thomasma said.  “We just have to continue to work on our execution and finishing on the offensive end.”

Newaygo (4-3, 1-2) will be at Morley Stanwood on Friday for a CSAA matchup.

Ravenna (3-5, 1-3) will play host to North Muskegon on Friday for WMC-Rivers play.
