MUSKEGON – The North Muskegon girls basketball team narrowly escaped a rallying Oakridge squad on Thursday evening. In the end, North Muskegon had a 30-27 victory.

“We went into this game knowing how outsized we were, and how good Oakridge was, but we played our game and kept hustling, even through a flat third quarter,” said North Muskegon coach Jill Young.

The Norse led by 11 points at the half, 20-9, before the Eagles picked it up and outscored them 18-10 over the last two quarters.

Delaney Young led the Norse with 10 points and seven steals. Emma Lamiman threw in six points and five rebounds, while Emma Buchmiller had five points and five steals. Grace Philpot scored five points.

Kaelinn Jozsa led the Eagles with a solid double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds. Destiny Bowen chipped in seven points.

“It was an ugly win, but we are proud of it,” Coach Young said. “These ladies are really unselfish and truly enjoy playing basketball together.”

North Muskegon (7-3, 3-1) will be at home against Mason County Central on Tuesday for a WMC-Rivers matchup.

Oakridge (2-6, 1-3) travels to Manistee for a WMC-Lakes contest on Tuesday.
