SHELBY – In a messy, turnover filled game it was Whitehall that came out on top of Shelby Thursday night, 36-31.

The Vikings controlled the pace of the game for the majority of the first half, using the speed of guard Kendall Osborne to blow past Shelby’s man-to-man defense. Osborne and teammate Lexi Daggett combined for 17 points to push Whitehall in front 24-20 heading into the third.

Shelby’s defense stepped up in the second half, forcing Whitehall into tough spots and allowing just four points. Buckets from Biloxi Lee, Kendall Zaverl, Molli Schultz, Kylie Brown and Lydia Soelberg put the Tigers up 29-28.

The fourth quarter saw Shelby’s offense fall off completely as the Tigers managed only two points against a stout Whitehall defense. In the end, the Vikings did just enough to push past Shelby for a win.

Osborne led Whitehall in scoring with 13 points while Daggett had 10. Clare Westerlund added eight in the winning effort.

A trio of scorers led Shelby as Soelberg, Zaverl and Schultz all had seven. Kylie Brown chipped in four points.

Shelby (4-5, 2-3 WMC Rivers) will face conference juggernaut Hart at home on Tuesday.

Whitehall (3-7, 1-4 WMC Lakes) will host Western Michigan Christian on Tuesday.
