HOLTON – A career high 21 points for Shelby senior Wyatt Dickman keyed Shelby’s boys basketball team to a 73-41 win over Holton on Thursday night.

Each team experienced a slow start offensively as turnovers plagued each in the first quarter. The Tigers owned an 11-4 advantage after the first eight minutes and used strong scoring in the second and third quarters to distance themselves.

Holton senior Carter Brandt kept the Red Devils in the game, scoring 29 points on the night – 11 of which came in the second quarter alone.

Alongside Dickman for Shelby was Lalo Garcia, who notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Trey Waller added 11 points and six rebounds for the Tigers while Phillip Hayes had 10 points and five assists.

Shelby (2-8, 1-4 WMC Rivers) stopped a seven-game skid with the victory, picking up their first conference victory in the process. The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Scottville to take on Mason County Central.

Holton (1-12, 0-5 WMC Rivers) has now lost eight in a row and will hit the road for a meeting with the league’s top team, North Muskegon on Tuesday
