WYOMING – The Fruitport Calvary Christian boys basketball team had quite a battle against the No. 2 state-ranked Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian on Friday.

The Eagles were taken down in the Alliance League contest, 75-52.

“We are making major improvements, and we are coming back from illnesses and injuries, but our guys are starting to figure it out,” said Calvary Christian coach Brad Richards. “We saw glimpses of great basketball tonight.”

The Eagles opened strong and were down just two points in the second quarter before giving up five three-pointers to go into the halftime break down by 17 points.

Down but not out, the Eagles continued to fight and managed to cut the deficit to single digits.

Bradley Richards posted a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds. Quinn Swanson poured in 16 points, while Sam Zelenka had a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists.

“If we can keep improving like this, we are hoping to see them again down the road in the playoffs,” Richards said.

Fruitport Calvary Christian (10-10, 1-5) will travel to Wyoming Lee on Tuesday for conference play.
