WHITE CLOUD – Gracy Holmes hit a last-second basket to help the White Cloud girls basketball team put a dagger in an exciting 29-27 win over Blanchard Montabella on Monday.

“The fans got their money’s worth tonight,” said White Cloud coach Caleb Wilk.

With 0.8 seconds left, the Indians’ Brooklyn Foondle launched a long pass from under their own basket that Holmes caught near the free-throw line. She quickly turned and hit a 15-foot bank shot at the buzzer.

The first half was all defense as both teams were tied at five points each. Adjustments were made over the halftime break and the Indians offense sparked to take a narrow 15-14 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Indians carried the one-point lead until the last minute when Montabella hit a jumper to steal the lead by a point.  Both teams stayed neck-and-neck, but the Indians managed to run the clock down from 30 seconds to 5 seconds then committed a backcourt violation to lose the possession.

Kadence Nickoloff led the Indians with seven points and Holmes had six.

“The memories of this game will be shared for many years,” said Wilk. “I couldn’t be prouder of the resilience and fight we showed tonight.”

White Cloud (7-11, 2-6) will be at Grant for CSAA play on Wednesday.
