FREMONT – The Newaygo boys’ basketball team overcame an 18-point fourth-quarter deficit on Wednesday night in a Division 2 district semifinal contest and defeated Grant, 61-57.

The Lions trailed by five points at halftime and 51-34 heading into the fourth quarter.

Newaygo outscored the Tigers 27-6 in the final quarter to seal the victory and advance to the district title game.

The Lions were paced by Caris Nelson with 19 points while Logan Klomp scored 13, Josiah Long had 12 and Blake Kerr contributed nine.

The Tigers were led by Lucas Swanson, who scored a game-high 28 points, while Blake Rider scored seven.

Newaygo (16-8) will play host Fremont on Friday for a district title.
