MUSKEGON — Pentwater had a full lineup for Wednesday night’s non-conference girls basketball game at Muskegon Catholic Central.

But, they still were not 100 percent.

That led to some rather uncharacteristic lineups and a few preventable mistakes. However, the Falcons used a solid defense to come away with a 38-25 win.

“Aubrie (Adams) got us going offensively, hitting some key 3-point baskets, and helping us facilitate our press break,” said Pentwater coach Joe Gorton. “Mandi (Sayles) had a great night inside, getting great boards at each end and drawing lots of attention.

“Sam Schaefer held us together on both ends, playing the entire game. She was awesome on the defensive boards, and really caused chaos defensively.”

The Falcons limited MCC to just eight points in the first half – just two in the first quarter – which allowed them to overcome a sputtering offensive performance. Pentwater scored just six points in the first period, but because of its defensive pressure, still enjoyed a four-point lead.

The Falcons outscored the Crusaders, 15-6 in the second quarter and built a 21-8 halftime advantage.

Offense was again hard to come by for the Falcons in the third quarter, when they were outscored by the Crusaders, 10-3, and took a slim 24-18 lead.

The Falcons finally got their offense off the ground in the fourth quarter with 14 points as Adams knocked down a triple and scored nine points.

Adams led the Falcons with 17 points, while Mandi Sayles contributed seven.

Lindsay Ladd scored 10 points for MCC and Daeja Hill added six,

Pentwater improved to 8-4 overall and plays its third game of the week at home Friday against league foe Bear Lake.
