RAVENNA – A hard-fought battle between Ravenna and Shelby’s boys basketball teams ended in favor of the Bulldogs, 67-58, on Thursday.

Both teams were pretty evenly matched and the stat sheet reflected that. The Bulldogs connected 27-of-53 shots while the Tigers hit 26 of 50. Ravenna turned the ball over 14 times while Shelby gave it away 18 times. The difference in the game came down to points scored beyond the arc.

Ravenna’s offense was clicking from that area, knocking down seven shots from three-point range. Shelby only managed to find two buckets from that range.

Dylan May was a force for the Bulldogs, scoring 25 points. Chase Thomas added 16 points and Blake Homoly had 10 for Ravenna.

Shelby got good scoring out of multiple guys, but it was Phillip Hayes who led the team with 17 points. Wyatt Dickman neared double-double territory with 16 points and nine rebounds while Lalo Garcia had nine points and six rebounds.

The Tigers (3-13, 1-7 WMC Rivers) will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Monday when they travel to Newaygo.

Ravenna (9-8, 6-3 WMC Rivers) remains in third in the conference standings, but is gaining ground on Hart (6-2 WMC Rivers). The Bulldogs will get a non-conference matchup with Fremont on Friday before a rematch with the Pirates on Tuesday.
