CUSTER — Mason County Eastern’s girls basketball team dominated the glass and distributed the ball efficiently on its way to a 47-21 West Michigan D League win over Baldwin at home Wednesday night.

The Cardinals took a big 22-8 halftime lead, and then led 37-14 after three.

“Great win for the girls tonight,” said Eastern coach Jake Smith. “We missed a lot of shots under the basket, but they were contested.

“The girls fought through contact tonight and put together a strong game. I really like how the girls are playing well together as a team and we are having multiple girls step up every night.”

Lucy Shoup scored 13 points to lead the Cardinals. Braylin Johnson contributed 12, Eline Schulstad added eight and Kennady Tyler six.

Khole Tolliver led the Panthers with nine points.

The Cardinals improved to 4-12 overall, 4-8 in the league. Eastern hosts Marion in another league game Friday.
