PLYMOUTH – Reeths-Puffer hockey had no answers for Detroit Catholic Central at Friday’s Division 1 hockey semifinal.
The Rockets fell 8-0 to DCC at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
Quickly falling behind 3-0 in the first period, Reeths-Puffer was outshot 26-7 after the first 17 minutes. The Shamrocks continued their dominance in the second period with five straight goals, ending the game early with the eight-goal mercy rule.
Goalie Huck VanDyke did all he could to withstand the Shamrock onslaught of shots. In the end, Reeths-Puffer was outshot 44-13.
The Rockets’ successful 2023-24 campaign was highlighted by regional victories over Rockford and Sparta. Reeths-Puffer finished the season 21-8 and carried a 13-game winning streak into Friday’s matchup.
Detroit Catholic Central has won seven of the last nine state titles and four in a row.
