Cold weather soccer seems to be the new normal for spring sports in 2024.

Western Michigan Christian hosted Spring Lake on Wednesday night for a non-league girls soccer battle that again saw temperatures in the mid-30s.

While the stinging cold air stopped fans from wearing short sleeves, Spring Lake was not frozen out from taking a quick strike.

Ella Andree gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead just 1 minute into the contest.

The early goal did not deter WMC.

“We learned a lot more about ourselves tonight,” said WMC coach Jarred McFarland. “I saw the girls pick their heads up and they dug in and grew into the game really well.”

Spring Lake continued to pressure WMC through the first half and into the second.

WMC was able to thaw out its offense and found its first shot of the contest by freshman Emersyn Paling.

Minutes later, WMC junior Nora Pollock gave the Warriors their lone goal of the night. Brooklyn Watts set the play up for the assist.

That was the final goal of the contest.
