MUSKEGON – The Reeths-Puffer softball team earned a non-conference doubleheader sweep over Holton on Monday evening to remain undefeated on the season.

In the opener, both teams were scoreless over the first three innings. The Rockets opened up and edged out the Red Devils, 6-5. In the second game, the Rockets cruised to a 13-3 victory.

In the first game, Rocket pitcher Lainey McDaniel gave up six hits and struck out eight batters.

The Red Devils’ Kenzie Green allowed five hits in the loss.

Abbie Critchett and Kyleigh Bilek each had a double, while Kaylee Jones, Megan Barmes, Tessa Ross and Mady Snyder each added a single for the Rockets.

Ryann Robins led the Red Devils with two hits, including a home run and three RBI. Emma Monette chipped in a double and two RBI.

The Rockets cruised in the nightcap with Snyder on the mound. Snyder allowed eight hits and struck out six for the Rockets.

Robins took the loss for the Red Devils.

For the Rockets, Natalie Kunnen belted a home run, her third of the season. Jones added two singles and Brook Buchan had one single. McDaniel contributed a double.

The Red Devils’ Abbie Fowler and Robins each had a pair of hits.

“We had our chances to make it a game and left to many runners stranded in scoring position,” said Holton coach Kirk Younts. “When you play a good team like that, you have to take advantage of your opportunities when you get them and we didn’t do that tonight.”

Reeths-Puffer (14-0-1) will be at home on Tuesday for an OK-Green doubleheader.

Holton hosts Mona Shores on Wednesday.
