The Spring Lake baseball team took a split in a doubleheader against Allendale in a battle of two state-ranked teams on Tuesday night.

The Lakers lost the first game 5-2, then bounced back with a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

Spring Lake trailed 1-0 in the first, 2-0 in the third, 2-1 after five innings, 5-1 midway through the sixth and 5-2 after six innings.

Will May paced the Lakers with two hits, while Zane Stahl suffered the loss, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out seven in six innings of work.

In Game 2, the Lakers led 2-0 after four innings and 3-0 through five innings.

Jaden Core, Stahl and Alex Batka each knocked in a run, while six different Lakers had a base hit.

May was the winning pitcher. He allowed no runs on six hits in a complete-game effort.

The Lakers are now 11-6 on the season and 6-5 in O-K Blue play.
