HART – The Hart Pirates earned a West Michigan Conference softball doubleheader sweep over Fremont on Friday.

The Pirates shut out the Packers, 7-0, then won the nightcap, 5-3.

Gabby Quijas got the win on the mound for the Pirates. She was very efficient in needing just 76 pitches over seven innings. She gave up just four hits and struck out four.

Caydence Bateson had three hits, while Kelsey Copenhaver added two hits, including two doubles, and two RBI. Abby Hicks, Gabby Schmieding, Maryn Klotz and Quijas each collected hits.

In Game 2, Reese Smith kept the Packers scoreless through four innings, but ultimately gave up two hits, two runs and struck out one. Quijas came on in relief and gave up a run.

At the plate, Bateson had two hits and an RBI, Nora Chickering had a pair of hits, while Leah Walker chipped in a hit and two RBI. Makenna Carrier, Copenhaver, Hicks and Quijas each had a hit.

Hart (24-11, 7-5) will host Pine River on Wednesday to close out the regular season.

Fremont will be at home against Fruitport on Tuesday.
