LUDINGTON — Although goals have been hard to come by for the Ludington girls’ soccer team, the Orioles have continued to win in the West Michigan Conference.

And, isn’t that what counts the most?

The Orioles fell behind early Monday night, spotting the visiting Orchard View Cardinals a 1-0 lead before rallying for a 3-1 conference win that kept them perfect in the WMC at 5-0-3.

“We had a lot of opportunities that we left out there that we should have finished and put away,” said Ludington coach Kris Anderson. “On some scoring opportunities, we didn’t make the last dangerous pass that would have given us a great shot on goal. It was one of those nights where we controlled the night, but made the game a lot closer than it should have been.”

Maddy Billings scored the equalizer which sent the two teams into the halftime break at 1-all.

Emma McKinley produced two goals for the Orioles in the second half, both off corner kicks by Billings. The defense did the rest.

Cambria Britton was nearly flawless guarding the net for the Orioles, rejecting eight of nine Orchard View shots.

Ludington improved its record to 5-6-3 on the season and the Orioles are scheduled to host Hart in the conference on Thursday night.
