The Muskegon Clippers opened their three-game road set with the Southern Ohio Copperheads on the right foot with a 7-3 win at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Clippers earned the win despite getting outhit 14-10. Muskegon managed to limit the damage on the Copperheads 14 hits.

Muskegon is now in third place in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League standings with a 6-4 record.

The Clippers will look for another solid outing at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in the second game of the series.

The Copperheads jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Muskegon responded by scoring two runs in the second, third and fifth innings to take a 6-1 lead.

Southern Ohio got a run back in the sixth before the Clippers responded with a run of their own in the eighth inning. The Copperheads closed out the scoring in the ninth with a single run.

Muskegon’s Justin Osterhouse made his debut in style with three hits, two RBI and a run scored.

Ethan Baird added two hits, while Carson McCoy, Cooper Hums, Diego Pena, Ashten Wong, and Preston Leon each added a hit. Baird and Wong each knocked in two runs while Pena had one RBI. Seven different Clippers scored a run.

Muskegon starting pitcher Jacob Pallo earned the win, allowing one run on six hits in five innings of work.

Will DeMasse tossed three innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits while striking out three. Clipper infielder Zachary Warren pitched the final inning and gave up one run.
