Montague vs. Shelby

SHELBY — Montague’s baseball team swept a West Michigan Conference doubleheader from Shelby, 7-1 and 4-0 on the road Monday afternoon to win the conference title with a 14-0 record.

Owen Petersen was the winning pitcher in the first game, going the distance and giving up one run on just three hits, walked two and struck out 12.

Aiden Buchberger had three hits with a triple and a run scored to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Colton Blankstrom had two hits with a triple, two RBI and a run scored.

Hayden McDonald had two hits, Tate Stine had a single, one RBI and a run scored.

Nick Moss took the win in the nightcap. He also went the full seven innings, allowing two hits, two walks and struck out 13 batters.

Petersen had two hits with a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Buchberger knocked out a triple while Blankstrom doubled and scored a run.

Montague improved to 18-5 overall.

Hart vs. Ravenna

HART — Ravenna’s baseball team swept a West Michigan Conference doubleheader from Hart, 7-1 and 14-4 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs opened up a 6-0 lead on the Pirates after four in the first game.

Travis May was the winning pitcher for Ravenna, allowing only one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters and did not walk anyone. Collin Poley threw 1 1/3 innings in relief.

Leading hitters were Thomas McCullough who was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored, and Dayton Thomas who was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one scored. Owen Scott had two RBI, while Blake Homoly and Drew Mabrito each had one RBI.

In the second game, the Bulldogs built a 7-1 lead after two innings and pulled away from a 7-4 game with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Brandon McFarren picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs, allowing four runs on four hits with one strike out and walking one over 3 2/3 innings. Poley again pitched in relief.

Thomas was the big hitter for the Bulldogs in Game 2, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Luke Meyers was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, and McCullough was 2-for-4 with one run scored. Scott had two RBI, while May and Tyler Bradtmueller each had one.

Allendale vs. Fruitport

ALLENDALE — Fruitport’s baseball team lost a OK Conference-Blue doubleheader to Allendale, 4-3 and 8-3 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Fruitport took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the opener only to see Allendale scored single runs in the bottom of the second and fourth innings to tie it, 2-2.

The Trojans retook the lead, 3-2 with a run in the top of the sixth but Allendale scored two in the bottom half and Fruitport could not answer.

Cody Matuz pitched all six innings for the Trojans and gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits, walked one and struck out 11 batters.

Gaven Reames led the Trojans at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Matuz had a hit and drove in a run. Aiden Vela, Braxton Ward and Hayden Harper each had a hit.

Fruitport rallied from a 8-0 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning, but couldn’t make it all the way back.

Ryan Bosch pitched the first thre innings for the Trojans, giving up six runs (one earned) on one hit with five strike outs and four walks.

Reames threw the next two innings and allowed one run on one hit, struck out one and walked one. Brady Weck finished up, throwing the last inning and giving up one hit and a walk.

Andrew Spyke led the Trojans at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and scored a run. Matuz and Mayson Whitlow each had one RBI.

Ludington vs. Manistee

LUDINGTON — Ludington’s baseball team swept a Lakes 8 Activities Conference doubleheader from Manistee, 10-0 and 12-5 at home Tuesday afternoon.

Hayden Madl was the winning pitcher in the first game, allowing four hits and striking out seven over five innings.

Gabe Hogenson was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored at the plate, while Evan McCarthy was 3-for-3 with two RBI and two stolen bases.

In the nightcap Jonny Weinert picked up the win, giving up four hits and two runs while striking out three in four innings pitched.

Nathan Dillehay was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Stephen Weinert was 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

Ludington improved to 14-7 overall and 9-1 in the conference.

Muskegon Catholic Central vs. Orchard View

MUSKEGON — Catholic Central’s baseball team swept a Lakes 8 Activities Conference doubleheader from Orchard View, 12-1 and 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game Sam Convertini was the winning pitcher, giving up just one hit and struck out seven in four innings.

Leading hitters for the Crusaders were Bryan Convertini who had three hits, including two doubles. Convertini had two doubles as well and collected four RBI.

Braden Gustin added two hits and Dewey Modaff and Croix Klint chipped in with two hits apiece.

In the nightcap Owen Lyonnais pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out six.

The Crusaders were led at the plate by freshman Bryan Convertini and Vince Szymanski who had three hits apiece. Convertini had two doubles, while Modaff had a double.

North Muskegon vs. Whitehall

NORTH MUSKEGON — Whitehall’s baseball team split a West Michigan Conference doubleheader with North Muskegon, winning the opener 4-2 and dropping the nightcap 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

Kyle Stratton was the winning pitcher in the first game, going the distance and allowing two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out seven.

The Vikings had only four hits in the game, with Ryne Christiansen, Landon Howe, Evan Ritchie and Jack McDowell each getting one. Christiansen, Howe, Ritchie and McDowell each drove in one run.

Gallo was the losing pitcher for the Norsemen, allowing four earned runs on four hits with five walks and five strike outs.

Belmonte, Mcmanus, Delora, Caliendo and Young each had base hits with Mcmanus driving in a run.

In the second game Young was the winning pitcher. He pitched a complete game and gave up four earned runs on seven hits with four walks and struck out five.

Meyers was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Mcmanus was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and Delora was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Moat was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Belmonte, Gallo, Colbert and Newville each had one RBI.

Christensen took the loss on the hill for the Vikings, pitching four innings and allowing six earned runs on seven hits with three walks and four strike outs. Isaac VanAmberg pitched two innings of relief.

Kyle Stratton went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and Howe finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Noah Meinert had three RBI.

Grand Haven vs. Hudsonville

HUDSONVILLE — Grand Haven’s baseball team lost an OK Conference-Red doubleheader to Hudsonville, 2-1 and 6-4 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game Jared Tithof took the loss on the hill for Grand Haven. He pitched six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits with one walk and struck out six.

Tithof also led Grand Haven at the plate, going 2-for-3. Dayton Deal also was 2-for-3.

In the nightcap Nick Wilson took the loss in six innings of work. He gave up six earned runs on eight hits with one walk and three strike outs.

At the plate Xavier Rodriguez led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Ty Sandwick had one RBI. Tithof, Braden Rademaker, Deal and Evan Duvall each had a hit.
