MUSKEGON – Muskegon Catholic Central found itself on the wrong side of a gut wrenching 26-24 loss to visiting Frankfort for the Crusaders’ Friday night homecoming matchup.

Holding a 24-20 lead after Bryan Convertini’s 6-yard touchdown run with 11:55 left to play in the fourth quarter, MCC nearly held the line against Frankfort.

But with one minute remaining in the game, Frankfort was able to find the end zone on a 20-yard TD pass to take a 26-24 lead after a failed 2-point conversion.

MCC found itself trailing 7-0 early in the contest as Frankfort scored on its first possession of the game. The Crusaders were able to force a safety to trail 7-2 after the first. Frankfort added to its lead in the second quarter on a 20-yard TD pass for a 14-2 lead.

The Crusaders started their comeback with a pair of giant plays in the second quarter. The first came on a 58-yard touchdown run by Convertini, making the score 14-10. Vince Szymanski gave MCC a 16-14 lead on a 55-yard touchdown catch from Convertini just before halftime.

Frankfort was able to shutout the Crusaders in the third quarter while it found the endzone for a 20-16 lead heading into the final quarter.

Convertini led MCC’s ground attack with 102 yards rushing on 17 attempts and was 8-of-13 passing for 163 yards in the air with two interceptions.

Defensively, MCC was led by Convertini with nine tackles, Tim Railling had 8.5 tackles and Vince Szymanski had eight and Bode Zygmuntowski finished with seven tackles.

MCC is now 1-5 and heads to Centreville for its Week 8 matchup.
