MUSKEGON – The Montague girls basketball team outdid Oakridge with a 42-27 WMC-Lakes victory on Friday night.

The Wildcats ran out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and 25-15 at halftime. 

After the break, the Eagles tried to chip away at the deficit with a 10-8 scoring advantage in the third quarter, but the Wildcats still led, 33-25. The Wildcats picked up the pace in the fourth quarter and limited the Eagles to just two points.

The Wildcats’ Braylyn Bultema led all scorers with 19 points. Avah Vandermeulen scored five points, while Addie Peterson, Maizie Collins, Addison Pranger and Amanda Cederquist each added four points. 

The Eagles’ Adelin Goven scored eight points and Cambria Guenthardt added seven points. Destiny Bowen chipped in six points.

“The girls played hard and we are starting to play as a team,” said Oakridge coach Saxon Smith. “Credit to Montague for a great defensive game.”

Montague (7-3, 4-2) hosts Shelby on Tuesday.

Oakridge (2-9, 1-5) will be at home on Thursday for conference play against Ludington.
