Western Michigan Christian kicked off its girls basketball season with a 55-20 win over Howard City Tri-County in a non-league matchup on Tuesday.

The Warriors jumped out to a 17-2 lead early in the second quarter and never looked back.

Kate Derdowski drained a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter to spark WMC to the hot start. The junior led all scores with 15 points and also had six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a blocked shot.

WMC was also led by juniors Ashely Folkema and Tressa Arkema. Folkema finished with 11 points, six rebounds and six assists while Arkema put up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Freshman Alia Zuidema chipped in nine points, three assists and three steals in the win for the Warriors.

WMC next heads to Kalamazoo Christian on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. start.
