The Mariners shot just 18 percent from the floor and dropped their third straight game, 47-29, to visiting Big Rapids.
The Mariners seemed to be getting on the right track despite a last-second loss in their last game. But too many missed layups and other shots that fell short betrayed their attempts to build some consistency heading into the post-season.
“I was pretty happy because we got a lot of stuff that we wanted to get, the only problem was we did not shoot the ball well,” Manistee coach Kenn Kott said. “So, the bottom line (is) you might be able to get a great shot, you might be able to get the shot you want, in the end if you don’t put it in the hole it’s not that great of a shot.”
The Mariners cold shooting started from the opening tip and never improved.
Manistee trailed, 14-6 after one and 24-13 at the half. It was a 34-23 deficit at the end of the third quarter.
Alayna Edmondson led the Mariners with just seven points.
The Mariners fell to 7-12 on the season and open MHSAA Division 3 district tournament play Monday against White Cloud at Mason County Central.
