NEWAYGO – A strong second half led the Newaygo girls’ basketball team to a 50-30 win over White Cloud on Tuesday.

Kija Schultz had 11 points, seven steals and six rebounds, while Amaya Lathrop chipped in with 10 points, five steals, five assists and three rebounds. 

Gabby Arney had seven points, four steals and four rebounds for the Lions.

The Lions were ahead 23-14 at halftime before exploding in the third quarter with a 21-6 run to pull away.

“Good team victory for the ladies tonight, ” Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma said.  “The girls showed good effort.  We didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, but our defense was able to give us a spark and got us going.” 

Newaygo is now 15-3 overall on the season, while the Indians fell to 5-14 this season.
