A solid third quarter propelled the North Muskegon boys’ basketball team to a 54-44 win over Western Michigan Christian on Wednesday to advance to the district championship game.

The Norse led 15-6 at the end of the opening quarter, but the Warriors stormed back to tie the game at 26 at halftime.

North Muskegon went on an 18-6 third quarter run to take a 44-32 lead going into the final frame.

“We took an early lead as we hit some three-pointers early against their defense,” North Muskegon coach Charles Rypstra said. “During the second quarter they switched defenses, and it gave us some fits, plus they got hot from the three-point line. To start the second half, we just shored up the defense and tried to get them off the three-point line.”

The Norse were led by Adam Dugener with 28 points, four rebounds and three assists. Braylen Burrell added 10 points, while Ben Meyers added five points and six rebounds.

The Warriors were paced by Derick Ashley with 13 points, while Gabriel Modderman added nine and Levi Dutton scored seven.
