MUSKEGON — The Muskegon Clippers will be well represented in the upcoming 2023 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League all-star game.
Eight Clipper players will be heading to Mason, Ohio on July 18 for the game at Prasco Park.
The Clippers have been the toast of the league through the first 23 games with a 20-3 record.
Selected as starters are outfielder Colin Cornwell, second baseman Aaron Piasecki and catcher Jabin Bates. Reserves include three pitchers – Jack Decker, Daniel Gutierrez and Matthew Hoover – along with outfielder Luke Kerrins and shortstop Stoney Smith.
Cornwell, from Saginaw Valley State University, has a .329 batting average and a team-leading 21 RBI through Saturday’s game. Piasecki, a Mona Shores graduate and current member of the Kellogg Community College team, has been consistent throughout the season with a .361 batting average. Bates, a solid back stop behind the plate, is batting .286.
The Clippers’ pitching staff is led by Decker with a 6-0 record and an ERA below 1.00. Gutierrez is 5-0 with a 1.55 ERA and Hoover is 2-1 with a 3.37 ERA.
Kerrins, from Western Michigan University, leads the Clippers with a .373 batting average. Smith, from Chattanooga Tech CC, is hitting at a .275 clip and has a team-leading 14 stolen bases.
Also, Clipper coach Logan Fleener will serve as the head coach for the North Division all-stars. And, Clippers’ broadcaster Jonathan Timm will help out on the broadcast of the game.
Admission to the all-star game is free.
The Clippers are on the road Tuesday (doubleheader) before returning to the friendly confines of Marsh Field at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday for a game against the Royal Oak Leprechauns.
