SPRING LAKE – In a battle of state-ranked swimming teams, No. 4 Spring Lake defeated Grand Rapids Christian, 100-86 on Tuesday.
GR Christian came into the meet ranked No. 5 in Division 3.
“From start to finish, the swim meet was a true battle of two great teams battling it out in each event,” said Spring Lake coach Michael Homan.
The Lakers went down early, but Ben Goran, Sean Nenis and Keegan Quist gave them the tie and momentum with first-, second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively.
The Lakers used their depth through the back half of the meet to take the lead for good.
Alex Strauss finished in first place in the 200 free (1:53.33) and second in the 100 free (51.23). Noah Fletcher came in first in the 100 fly (56.07), while Fisher Halsey took the top spot in the 100 breast (1:04.15).
Ryan Fisher, Graham Porter, Strauss and Fletcher earned first place in the 400 free relay (3:26.36).
The 200 medley relay team of Tyler Nutt, Halsey, Fletcher and Goran finished runner-up (1:44.03). Fisher came second in the 50 free (23.16), while Nutt came in second place in the 100 back (58.80).
Fletcher, Goran, Strauss and Porter were second in the 200 free relay (1:32.63).
Spring Lake will host a quad against Hamilton, Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Manistee on Thursday.
