HOLLAND – The Spring Lake boys swim and dive team finished runner-up in the OK Lakeshore Conference meet with a score of 415 on Saturday.
“Words can’t explain how proud we are of this team with the way they stepped up and left it all in the pool,” said Spring Lake coach Michael Homan. “This team swam and dove with a lot of pride, heart and determination.”
Holland Christian claimed the title with 540 and Grand Rapids Christian finished in third with 345. Mona Shores co-op came in sixth place with 89.
“Our team goal was to finish second, have 18 swimmers in the top 8, and 16 in the bottom 8,” Homan said. “We had 17 in the top 8 and 16 in the bottom 8.”
Noah Fletcher was conference champion in the 50 free (21.64) and the 200 free relay (1:27.86) alongside Alex Strauss, Graham Porter and Ryan Fisher. Both were new OK Lakeshore records.
Ben Goran and Sean Nenis qualified for the regional diving tournament.
Three swimmers earned state tournament qualifications.
Tyler Nutt in the 100 fly (57.72), Goran in the 50 free (22.90) and Lucas Williams in the 50 free (23.06).
Fletcher, Fisher, Strauss, Nutt, Leo Zanon and Porter earned all-conference honors.
“We saw swimmers and divers crush many of their individual goals they set,” said Homan. “A huge shout out to Veronica Russell and Brian Porter, two great coaches who made this swim meet a great success.”
Spring Lake will be back at Holland Aquatic Center on Tuesday for the Second Chance meet.
