INDIANAPOLIS – An early two-goal rush gave the Muskegon Lumberjacks a 3-2 win over Cedar Rapids at the USHL Fall Classic East on Saturday afternoon. The win was the first for the Lumberjacks in preseason action.

Matt Iacopelli gave Muskegon a 1-0 lead just 3:41 into the contest after a Cedar Rapids turnover. Iacopelli went top shelf on the goal assisted by Tommy Panico.

Almost a minute later Connor Hurley tallied an unassisted goal, giving Muskegon a 2-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids cut the Lumberjacks two-goal cushion in half with a second period goal from Casey Jerry.

Luke Sandler put Muskegon up 3-1 early in the third period, tipping in a Connor Hurley attack. Frederik Tiffels also assisted on the goal.

The RoughRiders would get a late payoff goal from Carlos Fornaris after pulling goalie Danny Tirone with 1:27 left.

Muskegon was outshot 31-27 as goalie Jordan Uhelski posted 29 saves.

Muskegon head coach Todd Krygier got a little too animated early in the second period and was ejected for abuse of officials as was reported in the organization’s game summary.

The Lumberjacks face the Indiana Ice on Sunday for a 5:45 p.m. contest.
