Muskegon Catholic’s volleyball season came to an end against Fowler in the Class D regional semifinals in Grant on Tuesday.

The Crusaders fell in three sets, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21.

MCC took early 6-1 leads in the opening two games but could not keep the ball rolling in its favor. In the final game, the Crusaders managed to tie the score 21-21 but could not find a lead.

“Fowler just slowly fought their way back (in the first two games),” said first-year MCC coach Laura Farrell. “The final game was tied late but Zhane (Harris) just missed a block that fell outside and the momentum switched to Fowler.”

Leading MCC was Deanna Detorres with 19 assists and three aces. Zhane Harris had 12 kills and three blocks, Caroline Price had five kills and Zoie Price had nine digs.

“We had a very tough schedule and only three returning players (from last year),” Farrell said. “We had a lot to work on but we came together for a district title and that was a lot to be proud of for this season.”

The Crusaders finished their season at 12-16-3.

In the other semifinal, Pentwater lost to Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart 3-0.
