Red Wings 3, Sabres 2 – The Red Wings held on to defeat the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.
Detroit led 3-0 with three minutes in regulation, the Sabres responded with two goals in a span 61 seconds to cut their deficit to 3-2 with 1:49 remaining.
Dylan Larkin, Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening each scored a goal for the Red Wings while Henrik Zetterberg chipped in with two assists.
Detroit’s goaltender Jimmy Howard picked up the win, stopping 18 of 20 shots.
Buffalo’s Zemgus Girgensons and Sam Reinhart each scored a goal for the Sabres in a losing effort.
The Red Wings are now 38-27-11 on the season, good for 87 points and fourth place in the Atlantic Division. They are tied with Philadelphia for the final playoff spot with six games remaining.
Detroit will travel to take on the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
