The Warriors limited Black River to just seven shots and the lone goal given up was on a penalty kick late in the game.

“I thought our defense played exceptional,” WMC coach David Hulings said. “It is too bad we couldn’t keep a clean slate, but it was still great work.”

Lauren Myers opened the scoring in the first half for the Warriors, assisted by Jessica Kinnucan. Cassie Kingma added some insurance with a goal later in the first half.

Keepers Courtney Stuk and Ashlynn Lane combined to save three shots for the Warriors.

WMC (12-6-3) advances to play North Muskegon on Saturday. The two teams tied 1-1 in a match earlier this season.
