The Hesperia football team had a rough night against Wyoming Godwin Heights on Thursday, falling 43-13 in non-conference action.

Wyoming had a 7-0 edge after the first quarter, then took control by outscoring the Panthers 21-7 in the second quarter and 15-8 in the second half.

The Panthers’ Gerrit Yates had a 59-yard punt return in the second quarter. Kanin Witte added a 68-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He finished with 111 yards on 24 carries. Zach Young had 57 yards on 10 carries.

Hesperia’s attack was hurt when Yates injured his knee in the second quarter and did not play in the second half.

The Panthers, how 0-2 on the season, will return to action next Friday with a CSAA home game against Morley-Stanwood.
