A strong defensive performance by the Orchard View girls basketball team led to its second league win of the season, 39-19 over Muskegon Heights in Lakes 8 action on Friday.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 5-3 lead after one stanza and led 13-6 at halftime before outscoring Muskegon Heights 10-7 during the third frame.

Allison TenHove led the Cardinals with 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

Brandi Larabee added nine points and five rebounds for OV while Tara McGrath had seven points.

The Cardinals improved to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Lakes 8 Conference play.

LUDINGTON 39, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 29 – A big third quarter offensively propelled the Orioles to a Lakes 8 win.

Ludington trailed 9-2 after the first quarter and cut the deficit to 16-12 going into the halftime break.

The Orioles outscored WMC 19-5 during the third quarter to take a 31-21 advantage.

Lindsey Holmes and Zoee Zatarga led the Orioles with eight points and two assists each, while Breanna Mesyar followed with six points and three rebounds. Makenzie Howe had a team-high five rebounds.

The Warriors were led by Anna Sytsema with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Alyssa Eekoff contributed with six points and Kayla Johnson finished with five.

The Orioles are now 12-5 overall and 6-1 in league play, while WMC is now 13-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

MANISTEE 47, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC 34 – The Crusaders dropped a Lakes 8 contest despite having a late push.

MCC trailed 12-2 after the first quarter and went into halftime down by a 24-9 margin.

The Crusaders were outscored 17-9 during the third frame but bounced back with a 16-6 fourth quarter tear.

Hazel Rodriguez led MCC with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Crusaders are now 2-12 overall and 2-6 in the Lakes 8 conference.
