The Ravenna Bulldogs were pushed to the limit on Friday night against the Mason County Central Spartans.
The visiting Bulldogs scored all their points in the second half and defeated the Spartans 22-12.
“I knew going up there and it’s raining and wet and their bringing eight or nine guys in the box, there’s not much you can do,” Ravenna coach David Smith said. “Their kids played hard.”
Mason County Central scored on a 1-yard run by Beto Ramirez in the opening quarter. That was the only score in the first half.
In the second half, Ravenna’s Todd Brown completed a 55-yard pass to Alex White. The extra point made it 7-6.
But the Spartans regained the lead in the third quarter on Alan Barnhardt’s 1-yard run. The pass for two point failed and the hosts led 12-6.
White caught another long TD, this time for 91 yards from Brown. Brown then passed to White for the 2-point conversion and Ravenna led 15-12.
Josh Kohanski scored on a 35-yard run to cap the scoring for the Bulldogs. Kohanski finished with 10 rushes for 68 yards. Gabe Zimmer had 11 carries for 49 yards. White caught three passes for 149 yards and Brown completed 3-of-8 passes for 149 yards.
Nick Timlin led the Ravenna defense with 13 tackles. Zach Murrell added 10.
The Spartans’ leader was Barnhardt with 16 rushes for 112 yards. He also had eight tackles on defense.
“Mason County kids played really hard,” Smith said. “I was impressed with how they played.”
