Thursday night, both Muskegon and Spring Lake struggled in their respective Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Girls Basketball Classic openers.

Muskegon fell to Ludington and Spring Lake dropped its game to Mona Shores.

So, of course, Friday night’s match up was anything but a blowout.
Spring Lake led 12-6 after one quarter, while Muskegon used a 17-10 second-run to lead 23-22 at the half.
The Big Red one-point lead held through three quarters, and Muskegon held the Lakers to just three fourth-quarter points to go on to the 40-33 victory.
Muskegon’s Janiece Levelston led all scorers with 13 points, with teammate Mardrieka Cook adding 10 points in the win.
Spring Lake’s Megan VanDeWeg led the Lakers with nine points.
