A pair of Muskegon Lumberjack players had mixed results in their preliminary-round games in the International Hockey Hockey Federation U-20 World Championships in Russia.

Rasmus Bengtsson and his teammates from Sweden captured a 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic in their opening-round game. Bengtsson did not figure in the scoring. He had two shots on goal.

Sweden is the defending tournament champions. Sweden takes Switzerland in its next game on Friday.

Germany, on the other hand, with Lumberjack forward Frederik Tiffels, was routed by Canada, 9-3. Tiffels also registered two shots on goal and was a minus-3.

Germany returns to the ice on Thursday against the United States.
