Tyler Heinonen scored the game’s lone goal and goaltender Kevin Lindskoug made it stand up on Friday night as the Muskegon Lumberjacks defeated Sioux City 1-0 at L.C. Walker Arena.

The game was witnessed by 2,030 spectators.

“It was a tough game,” Muskegon coach Jim McKenzie said. “We controlled it early and I thought they came out hard in the second period.”

Muskegon killed a double minor penalty in the second period then scored a power play of its own with 6:41 remaining in the game.

“In the third period, it just became of matter of who was going to capitalize on their opportunity and we were able to do that,” McKenzie said. “Kevin made some huge saves, especially in the last five or six minutes of the third period. We had some breakdowns or they created some breakdowns and he made some big, big saves for us.”

Heinonen scored the game’s lone goal late on a power play with assistance from defenseman Rasmus Bengtsson.

“It was kind of a broken play and he took it to the net and he’s got a great shot and he used it,” McKenzie said. “He beat the goalie, he kept it low.”

Lindskoug made 31 saves and posted his sixth shutout of the season.

Muskegon (21-13-6) faces Indiana on Saturday night in the ‘Jacks Fight Cancer’ game.
