Muskegon Community College’s Lady Jayhawks battled back from a double-digit deficit, but ended up dropping a 103-102 decision to Jackson Community College.
MCC led 52-50 at the half.
Jackson used its 3-point shooting to build a 13-point lead in the second half. The game was tied at 99-all with 1;26 remaining. Sonnie Kurnat hit a 3-pointer and MCC led 102-99. Jackson tied it with a 3-pointer of its own. With 27 seconds left, Jackson hit one free throw to take a 103-102 lead. Muskegon worked the ball to the post, but a shot at the buzzer wouldn’t fall.
Lindsey Burnside led MCC with 23 points and 20 rebounds. Kurnat added 19 points, five steals and seven assists and Alex Torres had 13 points. Nikki Walsworth also reached double figures with 12 points and Jasmine Jackson had nine rebounds.
“I was very pleased with our young ladies tonight, “MCC assistant coach Sandra Bush said. “We stayed in the game, played hard and just never gave up. This is where we want our Jayhawks to be before we begin regional play next week.”
