Muskegon’s Justin Abdelkader scored a shorthanded goal in the second period on Sunday night in the Detroit Red Wings’ Game 7 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

The Wings held on for a 3-2 victory and a spot in the Western Conference semifinals against the Chicago Blackhawks. Game 1 is Wednesday night.

Detroit came into the series as the No. 7 seed while Anaheim was No. 2.

Henrik Zetterberg and Valtteri Filppula also scored goals for the Red Wings.

Abdelkader stole the puck at the blue line while killing off a Red Wings’ penalty and broke in alone on Duck goaltender Jonas Hiller. Abdelkader slid a shot between the sprawling goaltender’s pads at 16:37 of the second period. The goal was unassisted.
