The Oakridge Eagles are the West Michigan Conference girls soccer champions for the second year in a row after posting a 2-1 victory over Hart on Wednesday night.
Megan Larabee picked up a loose ball on the back side after a corner kick was bouncing around in front of the goal and fired a shot into the net.
One minute later, Keyara Wiard headed in a goal off a corner kick by Beka Shepherd.
“That was good to see because we get a ton of corner kicks, but we have struggled to connect on them,” Oakridge coach Jeff Lohman said. The Eagles had eight against the Pirates.
Macayla Greiner scored after a through ball from the Hart defense.
“We did a poor job sticking with the runner at times tonight,” Lohman said. “And Macayla is too good of a player to let run unmarked.”
Oakridge had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
“We will have a short celebration because we learned a ton in the second half that needs to be worked on before the state tournament starts next week,” said Lohman.
