Dillon Groover pitched a gem for the Spring Lake Lakers in the first game of a Lakes 8 baseball twinbill against Fruitport on Tuesday.
Spring Lake won the opener 2-0 and Fruitport took the second game 9-2.
In the opener, Groover pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. He struck out six and walked two. Travis Grimm took the loss for the Trojans. In his seven innings of work, he stuck out seven and allowed four hits and four walks.
Spring Lake’s leading hitters were Kyle Houts and Groover with two hits each.
In the nightcap, Austin Curtis sparked the Trojans with a seven-inning performance on the mound. He struck out three and allowed five hits and no walks. Kolin Lakatos walked four times from his leadoff spot and came around to score three times for Fruitport. Jacob Breese knocked in two runs and Mitchell Reyes had a key hit that extended the Trojans’ lead.
Cody Houts had two hits for Spring Lake. Taking the loss on the mound was Jorge Lozano.
