The Western Michigan Christian Warriors turned in a complete-game performance on Thursday in a 3-0 Division 4 girls soccer district victory over rival Muskegon Catholic Central.
It was the third victory for the Warriors this season over the Crusaders.
“This was a great game for us where everything came together,” WMC coach David Hulings said. “Whenever we play Catholic, they seem to take us right out of our game. Tonight we stayed disciplined, kept to the game plan and we had some success with it. We were able to try some new things that worked and that doesn’t always happen.”
Freshman Jessica Kinnucan scored 9:30 into the game after a corner kick. Alli Langeland drew the assist.
High-scoring sophomore Alexys Riksen scored WMC’s other two goals, one in each half. She scored with 6 minutes remaining in the first half a pass from Mykala Denison.
Riksen scored a header goal with an assist from Sarah Hughes in the final minutes of the game to complete the scoring.
WMC will face North Muskegoni at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Norse defeated Kent City Algoma Christian 4-0 in Thursday’s second semifinal game.
“We look forward to Saturday’s game,” said Hulings. “I think we are peaking at the right time and learning to play with each other and for each other.”
