GRANDVILLE–Struggling to hold possession of the ball throughout the night the Western Michigan Christian boys basketball team fell to Grandville Calvin Christian 56-46 on Tuesday evening.

It was a battle over the first half as the Warriors strayed slightly behind after the first quarter by a score of 13-11 and fought to bring it within one at halftime with the Warriors down 27-26.

The Warriors took their lumps in the third quarter off some crucial mistakes allowing the Squires to go on a 15-6 scoring run and stretch the deficit to 42-32 to put the pressure on the Warriors to rally back.

Though the Warriors did tally a wealth of points in the final quarter the Squires continuously answered back matching point for point to put the game out of reach for Western Michigan Christian.

Despite the loss Coach Kurt Gruppen wanted to focus on what needs to be done to improve and grow.

We turned the ball over too many times to take the win,” said Coach Gruppen. “I am very proud of our defensive effort and execution tonight. We have a lot we can build on.”

Leading the Warrior offense was Owen Varnado who had a team high 26 points with nine rebounds while Sam Liggett tossed in 14 points.

Western Michigan Christian slumps to 2-7 on the season and will visit Muskegon Heights Academy on Friday.
