Connor Hurley showed off his goal-scoring prowess in leading the Black Team to a 6-5 victory in the Muskegon Lumberjacks’ Black and Gold All-Star Game on Saturday night at L.C. Walker Arena.

Hurley scored three goals, including one in the final minute of the game to not only complete the hat trick, but lead his team to a come-from-behind victory.

The game culminated a full week of hockey tryouts for about 200 players who came into town to battle for a spot on the 2013-14 Jacks’ roster.

“It was a good week of hockey and there were a lot of good players,” Lumberjacks’ coach Todd Krygier said. “It gave guys the opportunity to show what they can do.”

Now that the week is over, the Lumberjacks’ top brass, including Chris and Peter Ferraro and John Vanbriesbrouck will sit down and mull over who made the 23-man roster and who didn’t.

On Saturday night, the top 40 players showed off their stuff under the watchful eye of Lumberjack owners, coaches and scouts.

But the guy who showed off the most was Connor Hurley, who stole the show.

The game featured six players who suited up for the Jacks last year, including Connor Hurley, his brother Cullen Hurley, goaltender Jordan Uhelski, Mike Preston, Matt Mendelson and Cameron Darcy.
