Muskegon Community College swept its softball doubleheader against Lake Michigan College on Wednesday. The Jayhawks won 5-3 in Game 1 and 12-4 in the nightcap.

After taking a 3-2 first inning lead in the opener, MCC added two more runs in the third inning and held Lake Michigan to just one more run in the sixth.

Meghan Birr hit a triple and two singles and scored a pair of runs for the Jayhawks, while Alyson Behnke had two hits and an RBI and Emily Peake had a double and two RBI for MCC. Jessica Gillings added a two-run homer.

Winning pitcher Megan VanderWal went all seven innings, giving up five hits and struck out eight.

In Game 2, the Jayhawks erupted for seven sixth inning runs to close out Lake Michigan.

Megan Jean had a home run, two singles and three RBI for MCC while Gillings had a homer, a single and two RBI. Peake had two hits and two RBI, Birr had two hits and an RBI and Mary Guidice had three hits and an RBI for the Jayhawks.

VanderWal posted the Game 2 win, scattering seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
